Finding a qualified neurofeedback practitioner takes the same kind of effort needed to find a qualified acupuncturist, reflexologist or naturopath physician. Just because the shingle says neurofeedback that does not guarantee that you will be helped or that the most effective neurofeedback applications will be delivered.

First, look for practitioners who are health care professionals that have been licensed or certified by a state board in fields such as medicine, counseling, alternative health or special education.

Second, make sure the practitioner does or has access to Quantitative EEG (QEEG). Clients with Traumatic Brain Injury or other serious neurological disturbances need an intensive EEG analysis

Third, look for practitioners who are certified by the Biofeedback Certification Institute of America (BCIA) or who are on Certification track (consequently, they receive mentoring help from more experienced practitioners). See www.bcia.org for more info. BCIA has a list of certified practitioners.  Another source of those involved with the field of neurofeedback can be found at www.isnr.org.
